Where we used to live there were hundreds of magpies.  We put out food for the small birds and the magpies came down too, to grab what they could.
One day Sam was in the garden with his nan as the birds were coming in to feed, when she declared with extreme vehemence. “I wouldn’t feed those magpies I hate magpies they eat baby birds”. At five years old Sam’s Supreme logical reply made us all laugh.

“But Nana, if you fed the magpies they wouldn't need to eat the baby birds”.
