Loki

1st August 2006, my Gran’s dog had puppies! We went to see them, there were 3, Jack, Jill and Peaches the runt, Stevie instantly fell in love with Peaches but was told that all 3 already had homes and she was going to live with the family that had the puppies dad, so for the next 8 weeks we visited regularly and watched them grow and develop their little personalities, although by far the smallest Peaches was feisty and mischievous which of course only made Stevie love her more. The sad day came and they went to their new homes, my Gran kept Jack, now renamed Billy. One of her neighbours had Jill who was now named Smeagol and Peaches went to live with her dad and had been named Suki.

That should have been the of it, however roughly 8 weeks later my Gran calls to say that Suki’s owners were bored with her, no longer want her and they are looking to sell her. Gran then went on to explain the conditions in which she was living and that if we still wanted her we should contact them quickly. Having grown up with dogs I know they are not a responsibility to be taken on lighly or on a whim, at this point Stevie had started to become agoraphobic and a dog seemed like a good way to get him out also I would never have fogiven myself if I had left then Suki in the horrible conditions she was in. I didn’t tell Stevie about any of this at the time as  Christmas was a few weeks away and I wanted to suprise him.

I told Stevie I was giving him an early christmas presant and the we needed to collect it. When we got there this puppy, who at the time was still small enough to fit in my hands, was thrust at me and we were quickly ushered out. Stevie recognised her straight away, she has a distinctive white patch on the top of her head or her psychic death ray spot as Stevie would call it, she got in to the crook of my shoulder under my coat and the deal was done. On the way home we discussed names and felt that Loki was appropriate given the mischievous nature we had seen previously, when we got home that day she proved straight away it was the perfect name. There was a few weeks of us getting her back to healthy and teaching her she was safe and free to be herself oh and Stevie also teaching her the command work for sit was dinosaurs, it took a while to retain that one, but we got there and she was an amazing companion and support to Stevie for many many years and continues to be the light of my life 15 and a half years later.
